Q. What classes are available?

A. The only class currently available is for the Trimble ProXR with Asset Surveyor and Pathfinder Office.  This was the most popular Trimble Mapping System from 1994 until 2003.

It is still in use today because of its unique features.  It is the only Trimble mapping system that has the Coast Guard Beacon real time differential receiver and antenna built in, providing real time corrections in the field.  It is also the most highly sensitive mapping system under very difficult environmental conditions, such as moderate to heavy tree canopy.

Q. How do I sign up for this online class?

A. There are a few things you have to do:

  • Call or email Jim Lahm to arrange for payment and to obtain your personal copy of the student manual
  • You will receive an enrollment login and password.
  • Go to the Online Educational Center provided by eCollege.com.  They are hosting our GPS class.

Q. What can I learn?

A. We teach every aspect of using the Trimble ProXR with Asset Surveyor and Pathfinder Office.  This includes: GPS fundamentals, GIS fundamentals, system accuracy, data dictionary creation, satellite visibility graphs, configuring the datalogger, field data collection techniques, data transfer, differential correction methods, display/plot data, data editing techniques, precision estimates, exporting data to GIS formats, and field navigation techniques.

Q. What do I need to take this course?

A. We require that you own, rent or have access to a Trimble ProXR Mapping System.  If you don't have access to a system, let us know.  Contact us and request a copy of Pathfinder Office software.  In addition, you must contact Jim Lahm to arrange for payment and obtain a copy of the student manual for the module(s) you are taking.

Q. How long does it take to go through the course?

A. The complete course (Module 1 & 2) was designed to take about 12 hours, not including the three suggested field exercises.  Once you have made payment, you will receive an enrollment login and password.  It will provide you with access to the online course for a period of one month.  Online classes begin on the 1st and 15th of each month.  You can take the course at your own pace, and take it as many times as you require during that period.

Q. How much does this course cost?

A. The complete Trimble Certified Course has been divided into 2 classes, Module 1 and 2.

Module 1 covers GPS fundamentals, GIS fundamentals, system accuracy, data collection concepts, the 5 steps of a project, how to obtain base files, data dictionary creation, and satellite visibility graphs.

Module 2 covers configuring the TSC-1 datalogger, precision estimates, field data collection techniques, data transfer, differential correction methods, display/plot data, data editing techniques, precision estimates, exporting data to GIS formats, and field navigation techniques.

The cost for each module is $250.  If you want to receive a Trimble Certificate of Completion stating that you have gone through the entire course, you must take both modules.  However, if you don't want the take the Certified Course, you can take only the module you need.

Q. When will this class be available?

A.  The class has been ready since April 1, 2001.  Class starting dates will be set for the 1st and 15th of the month.
